The Wyoming Gaming Commission has issued a critical alert regarding a notable rise in illegal online gambling platforms targeting residents within the state.

Despite Wyoming’s legal framework permitting and regulating online sports betting and fantasy sports, it is essential to understand that real-money online casino games—including poker, blackjack, roulette, and slot machines—remain exclusively prohibited in the state. This regulatory stance is designed to protect residents from potential financial harm and misleading practices by unlicensed operators.

Unfortunately, a growing number of unlicensed websites and mobile applications are attempting to exploit this situation by offering casino-style games disguised as legitimate platforms. Some even go so far as to falsely register as Wyoming-based LLCs or utilize local addresses to create an appearance of authenticity.

Nicholas Larramendy, Executive Director of the Commission, emphasized:

“We want to make it absolutely clear: No online casino, iGaming, or sweepstakes site is licensed by the Wyoming Gaming Commission. All such operations are illegal in Wyoming.”

Larramendy noted that many of these unauthorized platforms are operated from offshore locations, complicating regulatory enforcement. While the Commission actively addresses these violations whenever possible, the inherent limitations of jurisdiction over foreign operators pose significant challenges.

In stark contrast, the regulated market continues to thrive. As of May 2024, Fanatics Sportsbook became the 21st operator to secure a license for online sports wagering in Wyoming, highlighting the state’s commitment to fostering a safe and compliant gaming environment.

The Commission strongly encourages residents to visit its official website to access a comprehensive list of licensed and approved betting operators. This resource serves as a vital tool for ensuring that all gambling activities comply with state laws.

The Commission stated:

“Our top priority is to maintain the integrity of gaming in Wyoming and to protect our citizens. If you’re uncertain about the legality of a gambling website or service, please don’t hesitate to contact our office directly.” This proactive approach reinforces the Commission’s dedication to safeguarding both the gaming sector and the interests of Wyoming residents.
