Virtus.pro is making a significant stride in the competitive gaming arena by signing renowned Street Fighter professional Shawn “Psycho” Williams, thus marking the organization’s re-entry into the dynamic world of fighting games esports. This announcement ignites excitement as Virtus.pro gears up for the prestigious Esports World Cup 2025.

Psycho’s journey toward this remarkable opportunity began in March, when he secured his spot at the Esports World Cup by reaching the grand finals of the Street Fighter League World Championship 2024. Competing alongside esteemed players, including Sean “Shine” Simpson, Christopher “ChrisCCH” Hancock, and FGC legend Victor “Punk” Woodley as part of the FlyQuest roster, Psycho has established himself as a formidable competitor in the scene.

In his announcement, Psycho expressed enthusiasm for joining Virtus.pro, emphasizing his commitment to the team not only for the Esports World Cup 2025 but also throughout the Capcom Pro Tour (CPT) 2025 season. With a decade of experience in the American FGC, Psycho embarked on his competitive journey in 2014 during the Street Fighter IV tournament at Final Round 17.

The recruitment of Psycho, notably the champion of DreamHack Atlanta 2018, signifies Virtus.pro’s official resurgence in the FGC, previously explored in June 2024 with the signing of Luo “Vxbao” Yanxin. Unfortunately, Yanxin remained with the organization for only two months before the division was dissolved in August 2024.

“Last year, we brought on a Street Fighter 6 player to gain firsthand insight into this evolving segment of esports. Our experience has provided clarity in terms of setting objectives and strategically planning for success,” stated Virtus.pro CEO Nikolai Petrossian. “Our immediate focus is to excel at the Esports World Cup, alongside participating in Capcom Pro Tour ranking events and strategically developing the fighting games division at Virtus.pro for sustained growth.”

Virtus.pro is just one of many esports organizations pivoting towards the Street Fighter scene in anticipation of the Esports World Cup 2025. With a staggering $70 million prize pool, of which $38 million will be distributed across 25 tournaments, the stakes are higher than ever. The EWC 2025 Street Fighter tournament is set to feature 48 elite players, taking place from August 20-23, 2025.

As the esports landscape continues to evolve, the emergence of teams like Virtus.pro in fighting games underlines a vibrant community filled with competitive spirit and vast potential. Industry professionals and fans alike are keenly watching as Psycho and his new team embark on this exciting journey.
