Uzi Becomes Second Member Of Riot’s Hall Of Legends

Chinese League of Legends icon Jian “Uzi” Zihao is set to be honored as the second-ever inductee into Riot Games’ prestigious Hall of Legends, standing alongside South Korea’s illustrious Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. This momentous occasion underscores the impact of exceptional talent in the esports landscape.
On June 6 in Shanghai, Uzi will be officially recognized during a special induction ceremony hosted by Riot Games in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. The event will feature the presentation of a custom art piece and a MANUFAKTUR Mercedes-Benz G-Class equipped with innovative EQ Technology. Additionally, a documentary showcasing Uzi’s remarkable journey will premiere on the League of Legends YouTube channel on June 11.
Uzi ascended to prominence through his tenure with Royal Club and Royal Never Give Up (RNG), captivating audiences with his aggressive strategies and unparalleled mechanical skills. His intense performances led him to back-to-back finals at the LoL World Championships in 2013 and 2014, multiple LPL victories, and a gold medal with Team China at the 2018 Asian Games. Although he never clinched a World Championship title, Uzi’s influence is considered transformative, leaving an indelible mark on the bot lane role and the broader esports community.
“Uzi’s legacy transcends titles; he redefined the bot lane role, shaping the narrative of League of Legends Esports,” stated Chris Greeley, Global Head of LoL Esports. “His fierce passion and unwavering determination have inspired millions around the globe.”
Starting June 11, Riot Games will commemorate Uzi’s legacy with a Hall of Legends in-game event, featuring exclusive cosmetic items and a game pass that highlights his storied career. These collectibles, designed in homage to Uzi’s nickname, “Mad Dog,” will allow players to engage with his history actively. A portion of the revenue from these items will support Uzi and his associated teams, reinforcing the community’s appreciation for his contributions.
The Hall of Legends aims to recognize players who have made significant contributions to League of Legends. Annual nominations are made by a panel of industry veterans and regional experts, with selection criteria that includes international successes, dominance in their roles, regional achievements, and long-term influence on the esports scene.
Uzi formally retired from professional play in 2023, leaving a legacy characterized not just by his accolades but also by his revolutionary approach to the role of a carry in League of Legends, paving the way for future generations of players. His story serves as a testament to the evolving landscape of esports and the notable figures, like Uzi, who shape its future.
