Welcome to the Weekend Report, where iGB highlights key developments in the gambling industry over the past week. This week, we cover Pennsylvania’s entry into the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement, notable changes at Penn Entertainment, and Gaming Corps’ new license in Ontario.

Pennsylvania Joins the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement

Pennsylvania has officially become the sixth state in the U.S. to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) for online poker. This strategic move allows online poker enthusiasts in Pennsylvania to engage in multi-state games, significantly expanding their playing pool by over 50%.

As of April 28, select operators are rolling out these multi-state games, joining a network that already includes New Jersey, Nevada, Delaware, West Virginia, and Michigan. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is collaborating with state agencies and operators to ensure a seamless experience for players.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “This is a common-sense step to support hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians, grow our economy, and generate revenue for critical services like education and support for small businesses.”

Allwyn North America Launches Games with DC Lottery

Shifting southward, Allwyn North America has successfully launched its gaming portfolio in partnership with the DC Lottery. This collaboration will offer players in Washington, D.C., access to the Allwyn collection, beginning with the premiere of Super Cash Bolt, a game tailored specifically for local players.

Allwyn North America is leveraging Instant Win Gaming’s InstantRGS to deliver these engaging games, aligning with DC Lottery’s mission to maximize funding for community projects. DC Lottery’s interim executive director Eugene Vlasenko commented, “Our players expect high-quality gaming experiences, and this partnership will help us meet that demand.”

Gaming Corps Secures Ontario License

In a significant expansion move, Gaming Corps has obtained a license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. This license permits the Swedish company to develop and distribute gaming content within Ontario, a market that has shown increasing demand for innovative gaming experiences.

The launch will feature a curated selection of high-performing, sports-themed titles, including Hoop Champion and Shootout Champion, tailored to meet local player preferences. Juha Kauppinen, CEO of Gaming Corps, emphasized the opportunities this license presents, stating, “Our entry into Ontario is a testament to our commitment to operating within regulated jurisdictions. We’re excited about the potential for player engagement and long-term growth in this thriving market.”

Penn Entertainment Announces Board Refresh

In corporate news, Penn Entertainment has proposed significant changes to its board of directors. Following dialogue with HG Vora Capital Management, Johnny Hartnett and Carlos Ruisanchez have been nominated for election. Additionally, Ron Naples has announced his immediate retirement, and Barbara Shattuck Kohn and Saul Reibstein will not seek re-election at the upcoming annual shareholders’ meeting.

With these changes, the board now comprises eight directors, seven of whom are independent, underscoring a dedicated focus on governance and oversight. The board stated, “We are eager to gain insights from Johnny and Carlos as we navigate this critical phase for our business.”
