Novomatic secures 10-year Dutch licence extension from KSA

The Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has officially extended Novomatic’s gaming vendor license for ten additional years, enabling the company to continue supplying gaming machines to slot casino venues throughout the Netherlands.
This renewal follows the successful resolution of certain unspecified conditions that previously posed challenges to the extension. Through a robust collaboration between Novomatic’s legal compliance department and its broader legal team, the company effectively navigated regulatory hurdles to secure its long-term license, facilitating the distribution of slot machines and other land-based gaming products in the region.
Notably, this development reflects strategic changes within Novomatic’s Dutch operations. In September 2024, Dr. Alexander Legat was appointed as the new CEO for the Netherlands, a move poised to invigorate the company’s strategy and operations in this critical market. Furthermore, in a significant shift within the European gambling landscape, Tipico finalized its acquisition of Novomatic’s Admiral Group in Austria in January, thereby gaining complete control of Atlas Group GmbH. This acquisition highlights ongoing consolidation trends within the industry, which is becoming increasingly competitive.
Meanwhile, the KSA has taken a firm stance against unauthorized operations by issuing a weekly penalty payment order to the operator Starscream, instructing them to cease all illegal online casino activities within the Netherlands. This regulatory action underscores the KSA’s commitment to maintaining a secure and compliant gambling environment in the country. Additionally, the regulator recently reported total gambling revenue of €1.47 billion for 2024, indicating a thriving market and the potential for further growth as regulatory frameworks evolve.
