Though many expected a fierce rivalry against the defending champions, Atlanta FaZe, the Thieves surprised fans and analysts alike by never facing FaZe during the knockout stages of the tournament. Thomas “Scrap” Ernst and his team began their Major 3 campaign with two decisive 3-0 victories over the Carolina Royal Ravens and Miami Heretics, before confronting their first significant challenge against the Vancouver Surge in the upper-bracket finals.

Entering the match as favorites, the Thieves experienced an unexpected setback, falling behind 0-2 in the series. They suffered a 219-250 defeat on Hardpoint-Hacienda and a 1-6 loss on Dealership-Search & Destroy. However, demonstrating exceptional resilience, the Thieves executed a thrilling reverse sweep to secure their place in the Major final for the second time this season, setting up a rematch with the Surge, who had triumphed over Toronto Ultra in the lower-bracket final.

In stark contrast to their earlier encounter, the final was a showcase of dominance by the LA Thieves, who secured the championship with a clean sweep: 250-228 on Hacienda-Hardpoint, 6-5 on Dealership-Search & Destroy, 3-0 on Vault-Control, and 250-134 on Skyline-Hardpoint.

Central to this victory was Scrap, who not only led the squad with a commendable 1.22 kill-to-death ratio throughout the tournament but also excelled with a 1.26 K/D ratio in the grand final, earning the title of tournament MVP. This performance was crucial in establishing the Thieves as formidable contenders in the CDL landscape.

With their triumph at CDL 2025 Major 3, the Los Angeles Thieves have ascended to the top of the CDL standings, boasting a record of 29-8 and 410 CDL points—20 points ahead of Atlanta FaZe in second place and 100 points ahead of Toronto Ultra. Their efforts also yielded a substantial reward of $150,000 in tournament winnings, while the Vancouver Surge secured a consolation prize of $90,000.

As CDL 2025 Major 3 concludes, the anticipation now shifts to the final stage of the season, highlighted by the upcoming CDL 2025 Major 4 Qualifiers, set to commence on May 2. The excitement in the esports community continues to build, as fans eagerly await the unfolding drama and competition.
